The best kitchen upgrades I made after 10 years of marriage

Hi Reader,

After 10 years of marriage, I finally realized something.

Some of the kitchen things we registered for, bought in a rush, or just kept using because they were “fine” were not really my style anymore.

My kitchen had become this mix of old plates, random bowls, stained pans, soggy drying mats, and things I used every single day but didn’t actually love.

So over the past year, I’ve slowly upgraded the pieces I reach for the most. Not huge renovations. Not anything wild. Just the everyday things that make cooking, hosting, and cleaning up feel a little prettier and easier.

Here are the best kitchen upgrades I made after 10 years of marriage.

The first one is probably the most boring one to admit, but it made the biggest visual difference.

My plates.

I was so sick of the plates we got when we got married. My style had changed, and by the end, I had a few different sets mixed together. Nothing matched, nothing felt intentional, and I finally decided it was time.

I found these Pottery Barn dupe plates that look so much more expensive than they are. They’re ceramic, they have that pretty artisan look, and the set comes with big plates, small plates, and bowls. Now I have a full set of 8 that actually matches, and I am honestly obsessed.

Then I found the bowls I didn’t know I needed.

These big serving bowls are so pretty. They come in 4 different sizes, and while the patterns aren’t exactly the same, they all coordinate beautifully. They look so chic on the counter or table, but I also use them constantly.

I put them out with popcorn, chips, snacks, salads, or anything I’m serving when people come over. But honestly, I use them almost every day for regular life too.

And then came the shallow bowls.

I don’t know why it took me so long to get shallow serving bowls, but now I get it.

They are perfect for pasta, potato salad, veggies, and anything that gets lost in a deep bowl. Everything just looks better in them. They are not the exact same brand as the bigger bowls, but they coordinate so well that they feel like they were meant to go together.

The next upgrade was all about counter space.

For years, I had one of those big oven-style air fryers sitting on my counter. I loved having an air fryer, but I did not love how much space it took up. And after a while, it just started looking grimy. Maybe you know the feeling.

So I switched to the Ninja Crispi, and I love it. It is light, easy to pull out, easy to clean, and I can store it in my pantry instead of leaving it on the counter all the time. It still cooks enough for my family, but it doesn’t take over my kitchen.

Then there’s the pan I didn’t expect to love this much.

I used Caraway pans for years and really liked them, but once I tried the Our Place Always pan, I noticed one big difference right away.

It is so much lighter.

That might not sound like a big deal, but it makes it so much easier to lift, clean, and use. I find myself reaching for it constantly because it just feels easy.

But there is one Caraway piece I would absolutely buy again.

The muffin pan.

I used to buy muffin pan after muffin pan and eventually toss them when they got gross or impossible to clean. Then I finally upgraded to the Caraway muffin pan, and this is where I think Caraway really shines.

It is so nonstick. Muffins, egg bites, little baked snacks, everything slides right out. It cleans so easily, and mine still looks good as new a year later.

And the last upgrade might be the most unexpectedly satisfying.

A stone drying mat.

For years, I used cloth drying mats that got soggy, smelled musty, got dirty, and constantly needed washing. A friend told me I had to try a stone drying mat, and I’m so glad I did.

It looks beautiful on the counter, it doesn’t get soggy, it holds dishes really well, and there’s no musty smell or constant laundry situation.

Such a simple upgrade, but it made my sink area feel so much cleaner.

So if your kitchen is still filled with the things you bought years ago, registered for forever ago, or just never got around to replacing, this is your sign that you do not need to redo the whole kitchen.

Sometimes swapping the everyday things you touch the most makes the biggest difference.

P.S. I think the biggest lesson for me was that I didn’t need a brand new kitchen. I just needed to stop using things I didn’t actually like anymore. These little upgrades made my kitchen feel so much more like me.

Hi Reader, There is one thing I always do before summer officially starts. I make a big Thrive Market order. Not because I’m trying to be dramatic about snacks, but because once summer hits, the kids are home, we’re running to the beach, packing picnic lunches, heading to games, going on day trips, and suddenly everyone needs a snack every 14 seconds. And I don’t know about you, but I can never find all the snacks I’m looking for at one store. I’m a little picky when it comes to the snacks I...
